LAKHRA COAL FIELD

Lakhra Coal field is located in Sindh-Pakistan, District Jamshoro, at a distance of 27 km from Jamshoro towards Sehwan on Indus Highway running along the right bank of river Indus. It consists of 1309 sq. km in which identified area is 1206 sq. km. It has total 1,328 million tons coal reserves, . Lakhra coal is classified as lignite with medium ash, high sulphur, having average calorific value of 6057 Btu/lb, 3365 Kcal/kg.

LPGCL

Lakhra Coal Development Company Limited (LCDCL) is operating under the administrative control of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources, GoP. LCDCL was set up in February 1990. It is a joint venture with the shareholding ratio of 38:12:25:25 respectively by PMDC , LCDCLEET , WAPDA and Govt. of Sindh. Its Board of Directors comprises of 10 Directors including the Chairman and the Managing Director with the following break up:

 
Govt. of Sindh 25% Shareholding two Directors including Minster for Coal & Energy Development Department as Chairman of the Company Board
PMDC 38% Shareholding Three Directors including Financial Adviser Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources, as one of the three Directors.
LCDCLEET 12% Shareholding as per BESOS One Director as per BESOS policy
WAPDA 25% Shareholding Two Directors
Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources Not holding shares Two Directors including one as Managing Director (Chief Executive) of the Company.

Presently the leased area with LCDCL is 7,943 Acres. The main objective of the company is to supply coal to Lakhra Coal Fired Power Plant at Khanot, District Jamshoro, Sindh-Pakistan. This plant has been installed at the mine-mouth in order to achieve economy of the fuel. Fluidized Bed Combustion (FBC) technology has been used in the boiler of the power plant. FBC is suitable technique for burning coal with high sulphur content. The specification of Lakhra coal is given as under:
